Animal Science
Student Organizations
All students are encouraged to join and actively participate
in a club in their area of interest. Club activities provide the opportunity
to develop life-long friendships and important contacts. In addition, participation
in departmental clubs encourages personal growth through development of
leadership, communication and organizational skills. Over 70 students are
involved in officer positions in one of our four departmental clubs. For
those not involved as officers, participation with committee work develops
responsibility, trust and determination. Finally, field trips, national
tours and invited speakers provide students with unique educational opportunities
not presented in the classroom.
Getting involved in a departmental club is easy. Simply attend a club meeting. Meeting times and places are posted in or near the Animal Science Building. See you there!
The Animal Science Department sponsors four student clubs, each oriented toward a specific area:
Block and Bridle Club
Students involved in B & B come from all areas of Animal Science plus anyone throughout the University who is interested in Animal Agriculture. Major activities include social events such as the Christmas party and spring banquet, intramural sports, educational events with invited speakers from various facets of the livestock industry and community service projects. One highlight of the year is the Little International Showmanship Contest. Students display their showmanship skills in the Little I.Dairy Science Club
Students interested in the dairy industry are involved in the Dairy Science Club. The most popular and visible function of the Dairy Science Club is the Milk-A-Cow booth that they sponsor at the State Fair in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. This booth provides an exciting and unusual educational experience for many non-agricultural people and also provides operating funds which are used to support club activities plus provide travel scholarships for members of the Dairy Cattle and Dairy Products Judging teams. Additional activities include a Christmas party, the spring banquet, Cheese and Sausage Festival and the spring tour of various dairy industries.Food Industry Club
Interest in the production, distribution, marketing or utilization of meat, dairy foods or eggs draws students to the Food Industry Club. Their primary activity is to help the Animal Science Department operate the Cheese and Sausage Festival each fall. Suppliers of various food products allow the people who attend the Festival to sample their wares. The primary income of the Food Industry Club comes through sales of blue cheese and sausage prepared by club members. Field trips, a Christmas party and the annual spring banquet round out a busy slate of activities for Food Industry Club members.Horsemen's Association
The OSU Horseman's Association provides an organization for horse oriented students to participate in horse activities while in college. Yearly activities include monthly programs on horse topics, interaction with leaders of the Oklahoma and U.S. horse industry, conduct of education workshops and clinics, and assistance with various horse events and activities.Pre-Vet Club
The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources sponsors the Pre-vet Club. Students from across the campus with a common interest in Veterinary Medicine gather to learn about veterinary medicine through guest speakers. In addition, information is shared about how to successfully apply to the College of Veterinary Medicine. Various fund-raising activities help support a trip to the regional Veterinary Medicine Conclave.Cowboy's For Christ
Cowboy's for Christ is a non-denominational Christian organization for students, staff and faculty at Oklahoma State University. The club's primary purpose is to be a support and outreach to the community in and around the University. Activities include meetings, seminars, and special events related to those who are interested in growing as Christians and activities related to agriculture.
