After you install each of these programs into it's own sub directory you can run the installed programs by double clicking on the *.bat file or double clicking on the run.exe file and typing the program name. It is recommended that each program be installed into a separate sub directory because a baled program such as AUTONRCA can not differentiate between the .WKB data files that its creates and ones created by other baled programs. If a program attempts to load a foreign template it usually locks up the computer.
Keyboard Functions: To use these programs with one exception the control commands are the same as Lotus123. If you are not familiar with spread sheets like Lotus the hot key which gets you to the instruction menu is the / key. For example to print, the command sequence is /PPG. The quit command sequence is /Q(quit)Y(yes). In most cases places where you will enter data are shown in the bright white the other cells which are protected and are shown with less intensity. If you try and enter data in one of these you will get a protected cell warning. Pressing the <Esc> key will free the warning message.
Important features found in baled programs which are different than Lotus 123 and other spread sheets.
File retrieval: The key stroke sequence /FR will retrieve the original baled spread sheet. If for example you are using AUTONRCA and you want to save your ration as JONES you would use the key strokes /F S and then type in JONES <enter>. The JONES file and any other files you wish to keep can be retrieved by using the /F G command. the 'G' or GET command is the important difference between Baled programs and for example Lotus.
Baled program data that you store (WKB) takes far less disk space the same data stored in a typical spreadsheet. For this reason we at OSU use the baled versions of ration programs to store the many different rations and budgets used in research and extension programs.
Format: Other feature of Baled programs are the same as with the Spreadsheets from which they are derived. Sometimes data are not shown as numbers but as **** this is caused by the value taking more space than the format allows. You can either use the format command to change the default format or in some cases expand the column width in which the problem occurs.
Display: As distributed the programs are set for a color display if you are using a monochrome display or have a laptop with a LCD you can make the display easier to read by using the / V command and selecting the appropriate display.
MACRO PROGRAMS USED IN THE RATION FORMULATION PROGRAMS:
1. <Alt> E edit feed library
2. <Alt> S select feed codes
3. <Alt> Z remove zeros from sheet
4. <Alt> F move into position to formulate.
To have complete freedom of movement within the sheet use <Alt> S then the <home> key.
If you do not want to install these programs on your hard disk you can run any of them from the supplied disk by typing 'RUN program name'.
