a research

degree.

as a
terminal

Admission
Requirements:
Graduate
Record
Examination
is required
of all
students for
admission to
any of the
departmental
graduate
programs. In
addition,
the TOEFL is
required for
international
students.
Course of
Study:
The Plan of
Study for
each degree
program is
determined
by the
student and
his/her
Advisory
Committee.
In the
Master of
Science
degree
programs,
students are
expected to
take courses
in areas
that support
their
discipline
or interest,
that are
above and
beyond the
courses
normally
required for
a B.S.
degree in
that major
or closely
related
major. For
the Ph.D.
degree,
students
take courses
related to
their major
that are
beyond those
for the
Master of
Science
degree. The
emphasis is
usually on
research at
the Ph.D.
level.
The
Department:
The
Department
of Animal
Science owns
large herds
and flocks
of beef and
dairy
cattle,
sheep,
swine,
horses and
poultry. In
addition to
the
livestock
facilities,
the
Department
has a modern
facility for
processing
meat and
milk
products.
The Animal
Science
Building
contains
well
equipped
laboratories
devoted
entirely to
research
efforts of
the faculty
and graduate
students in
all degree
programs.
Assistantships:
A limited
number of
one-half
time
teaching,
research,
and
extension
assistantships
are
available.
Students on
assistantship
may take up
to ten (10)
credit hours
each
semester and
are required
to work 20
hours per
week for the
Department
assisting
with the
teaching,
research, or
extension
programs.
