The OSU Livestock Judging Team won at the 2017 Tulsa State Fair! The OSU Orange team took home High Team, 1st Cattle, 1st Reasons, 2nd Sheep/Goats and 3rd Hogs. Additionally, OSU Grey was 5th High Team, 2nd Cattle and 3rd Reasons.

The Oklahoma State University Swine Research and Education Center team won Grand Champion Truckload at the 2017 National Swine Registry’s National Barrow Show on September 11, 2017. The team entered the truckload contest with a set of six purebred Yorkshire barrows. The OSU Swine Center has exhibited breeding stock at the show in previous years, however, this is the first time OSU has been represented in the truckload competition.

Dr. Leon Spicer, professor of reproductive physiology in the Department of Animal Science at Oklahoma State University (OSU), has been collaborating with Dr. Francesca Caloni, an expert in veterinary toxicology from the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Milan since 2004. This collaboration has led to six Italian visiting scholars coming to OSU to train in Dr. Spicer’s research laboratory over the past 13 years.

The department was contacted about a month ago by Chris Martin, now of Mustang, Okla., wanting to know if he could bring his wife, Jordan, up to the Totusek Arena as a way to celebrate their anniversary. They originally met during OSU's Big 3 Field Days at the Totusek Arena 13-14 years ago. They are now married with four kids.

Students Train and Sale Geldings in the OSU Equine Program

The OSU equine program has grown significantly over the past year. With a new building, new manager and three new courses, students have more opportunities than ever for hands-on learning with horses. This spring, five students began the breaking and training process with two and three-year-old geldings. Under the guidance of Natalie Baker and Dr. Steven Cooper, these students learned how to start colts under saddle and lay a solid foundation for future owners to build upon.

Sydney Stewart, an undergraduate student at Oklahoma State University, has been awarded a Fulbright U.S. Student Award to conduct research in Germany during the 2017-2018 academic year. Don Wagner is well known and recognized for his effective lectures that emphasized scientific principles and practical application for all classes of livestock. He has been honored with over 20 esteemed College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, university-wide, and industry recognitions. Because of Wagner’s leadership and vision, OSU’s Department of Animal Science maintained a balance of faculty and programs in teaching, research and Extension while positioning the college to meet the needs of students and stakeholders well into Oklahoma’s future.
