Information on the Oklahoma State University Animal Science Major; Animal Science Degree Program

This video was made by students in the Animal Science Capstone course as seniors in Animal Science.

What is Animal Science?

ANSI Slick SheetAnimal science is the study of domestic animals including livestock species (horses, beef and dairy cattle, sheep, goats, swine and poultry) and companion animals. Students study concepts from production through processing and learn about the value associated with livestock, as well as meat and milk produced from those animals.

Animal scientists apply the principles of biological, physical and social sciences to animal nutrition, genetics, reproduction, behavior and health. Livestock production systems, animal management and husbandry, animal products, and much more are part of the study of animal science.

The department also directs the pre-professional course preparation for veterinary medicine and offers degree plans for students interested in pre-professional health, nursing and law.
