OSU Department of Animal Science Academics

Welcome to one of the largest and closest-knit departments on the Oklahoma State University campus!

The OSU Department of Animal Science has over 1,000 undergraduate students, but a small town feel, a caring attitude and a commitment to every student. With faculty, staff and students that represent 38 states and 11 countries, it is easy to assimilate into the department. We have dedicated and passionate faculty whose work is recognized by many at OSU.

Six different faculty members have earned two OSU Award for Excellence in Student Advisement awards, three CASNR Teacher of Excellence awards, three CASNR Excellence in Student Advising and Mentoring awards, and three CASNR Exemplary Faculty awards. Our faculty have also earned the Golden Torch Award given by Achafoa Chapter of Mortar Board, the Alpha Zeta Outstanding Teacher award, Leave the Ladder Down Award, and Outstanding Faculty award given by the Interfraternity and Panhellenic Council. Additionally, four different faculty members have earned two Regents Distinguished Teaching awards and the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) Educator award.

OSU has the fifth largest animal science department in the country. Students receive hands-on experience on our 15+ farms and research facilities encompassing 13,000 acres. Curriculum is designed to give students the opportunity to learn concepts in the classroom, then apply those concepts on working farms.

The Department of Animal Science also has the largest scholarship offering at OSU with more than $400,000 awarded each year. Additionally, students have the opportunity to participate in the undergraduate research scholars program, which is dedicated to helping students gain hands-on experience in research settings, including collecting and analyzing data and applying concepts to field trials.

Interested in pre-veterinary? Our undergraduates make up over 50% of the OSU Veterinary School class every year!
