About Dr. DeSilva

Dr. Udaya DeSilva received his B.V.Sc. degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Peradeniya in Sri Lanka and was a practicing large-animal veterinarian for four years. He received his M.S. degree in animal genetics from the Kansas State University and his Ph.D. in human molecular genetics from the Washington University School of Medicine. After graduation, he worked for Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) in Sydney, Australia studying functional genomics of wool production before joining the Department of Animal Science at Oklahoma State University in 2001. His research interests are in adipogenesis in cattle and metagenomics of gastrointestinal and reproductive tracts of domestic animals. He teaches animal genetics and biotechnology.
