About Dr. Hiney

Dr. Kris Hiney is the Assistant Professor and Extension Equine Specialist for the Department of Animal Science. She is the co-adviser for Horsemen’s Association and academic adviser for animal science undergraduate students. Dr. Hiney works with equine owners and producers in the state of Oklahoma as well as 4-H and youth programs. Her current focus is improving disaster preparedness for livestock and equine owners and introducing STEM to youth utilizing the horse as a model. She is an active collaborator with the Horse Quest and EDEN community of practice in eXtension.

Dr. Hiney received her Ph.D. in Animal Science with an emphasis on equine exercise physiology from Michigan State before joining the faculty at the University of Wisconsin Department of Animal Science. Along with teaching courses, she served as coach of UWRF Horse Judging Team, breeding manager of Equine Enterprise, co-adviser for Horseman’s Association, and advisor for Companion Animal Respect and Education Club. She has also been active in the American Society of Animal Science, Equine Science Society, American Quarter Horse Association, and the National Horse Judging Team Coaches Association and has a special interest in agility dogs and canine therapy.
