About Dr. Fitch

Jerry Fitch, animal science professor at Oklahoma State University, was recognized with the 2016 CASNR Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Advising and Mentoring, as well as the 2016 OSU Advising Excellence Award. Fitch has been with the animal science department for more than 25 years. He joined the faculty as an assistant professor in 1988 and was promoted to professor 11 years later. Fitch’s research interest are evaluations of ewe breeds for out of season lambing, synchronization techniques; in season and out of season, and artificial insemination. He also does extension for sheep nutrition, reproduction and genetics.

Fitch serves as the advisor to more than 100 students. Having previously served as the department’s undergraduate advising coordinator, Fitch often holds workshops to help the animal science faculty grow in their advising skills. Currently he is the department’s teaching coordinator and he maintains the option sheets for both animal science and food science majors

Fitch is the coordinator for the Oklahoma Agricultural Leadership Encounter and formerly was the advisor for the OSU Block and Bridle Club, the Animal Science Leadership Alliance, the Agriculture Student Council and The Farm Theory.
