Preface

Integrated Resource Management is a team management concept that recognizes effective production practices, diagnoses the inefficiencies in production and prescribes corrective action that will insure maximum profitability and competitiveness through the optimum utilization of all farm/ranch resources.

IRM programs are coordinated through a team of industry experts who help individual farmers and ranchers analyze their operations and incorporate advanced technology with improved management practices.

NCBA Redbook

Integrated Resource Management, IRM, was initiated in 1988 by the National IRM Coordinating Committee with assistance from the National Cattlemen's Association (NCA) and United States Department of Agriculture - Extension Service (USDA-DS). Active participation by beef producers, Extension educators, and allied industry representatives have resulted in numerous IRM products being developed, beef producer training programs, and improved management by beef producers.

This publication has been compiled with the intent to provide a concise listing of IRM reference materials for those people or groups interested in improving beef production. It is anticipated that this bibliography will be used by beef producers, allied industry representatives and Extension and research faculty who would like more information on IRM. Through this awareness of IRM reference materials, we hope that additional productive IRM programs will be developed for U.S. beef cattle producers.

IRM is gaining wider acceptance by beef producers. Frequently changing economics, technologies, and policies/regulations have provided much incentive for beef producers to carefully study their beef operations and seek professional help when needed. The use of Integrated Resource Management by beef producers will no doubt be extremely important as we enter the next millennium.
